I now have a gallon batch of dandelion wine fermenting in the winery. It took me about an hour and 1/2 to harvest the blossoms. If the wine is good, next year I will do two batches.
In the afternoon of Sunday, April 8, a friend had driven a good distance to my place of residence and handed over to me a huge lot of 31 interesting books, 30 paperbacks and one hardback. He’d asked me to help him to sell these nice used books at Yahoo!
link

Perhaps, John felt that if we could all learn to act a bit more like Jesus, then the world would be a better place. We do not need to wonder this morning, because, in this morning’s passage, John gives us his purpose statement, outlining in plain language why he has written these things for us to read.John has written these things so that YOU might believe. “…but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”Obviously, “believing” then we had best be sure that the belief we have lines up with what John means by “believe.”John wants you to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God—God’s chosen King. The word “Christ” At the beginning of John’s Gospel (John 1:49), when Jesus calls Nathaniel, Nathaniel exclaims, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! was used as a Hebrew title for the King of Israel. So, John wants us to believe that the Messiah, God’s anointed King, is Jesus. We will each stand before God for judgment and be assigned a place in eternity—either hell, a place of eternal torment, or heaven, a place of eternal pleasure in God.John teaches us that the way to have life is through believing in Jesus. Therefore, to believe in someone’s name is to believe in them.In John 3:16, we read, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” It is whoever believes in him that has eternal life and does not perish. In John 3:19, we read, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe in him is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” Life and freedom from condemnation is for those who believe in Jesus Christ as the only Son of God (God’s only King). Condemnation and perishing come to those who do not believe in him. This tells us that believing in Jesus Christ is the only means of being saved. Indeed, when Peter and John stood before the council of Jewish leaders in Acts 4:12, we hear Peter say, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”Therefore, the life that I am about to describe, is available through believing in Jesus Christ, and believing in him alone. What sort of life does John have in mind? In John 3:5-6, Jesus declares, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That is, when we believe in him, even though we die, a day is coming when through Jesus Christ, we will be physically and imperishably raised from the dead. The first time Jesus appears in the Gospel of John, he is introduced by John the Baptist with these words (John 1:29), “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” I will let you examine your own heart to see whether you are a believer or not.“A believer personally receives the facts about Jesus Christ—his sinless life, crucifixion and resurrection as the Son of God—as historically true and therefore is completely confident in Jesus Christ, banking all hope of salvation in him. A believer confesses these things with joy and yields their life in full allegiance to Jesus, whom they know is God.”Personally…When John got to the tomb and looked inside it, John 20:8 says that he “believed.” Thomas, as we will see, had to believe for himself. When Thomas exclaims his faith in Jesus, he declares (John 20:28), “My Lord and my God!” You yourself must personally believe.…receives the facts about Jesus Christ—his sinless life, crucifixion and resurrection as the Son of God—as historically true…Thomas refused to believe in Jesus, because he could not except that what was stated about Jesus was actually true. Thomas is stating that an alive Jesus must have the same body as the Jesus he knew. This Jesus must be able to be touched, and must show the marks to prove he is the same man. When Jesus appears to Thomas, he offers Thomas his physical hands and his physical side. If there is no resurrection, there is no Christianity.I am calling upon you to believe that the man Jesus, who was beaten to a bloody pulp and then attached to a beam of wood with nails until he was dead—this Jesus literally rose from the dead. That is what Jesus and his disciples require you to believe—that Jesus was crucified for our sins, buried and raised from the dead.A report was released by the North American Mission Board on the results of a survey taken of on belief in Jesus’ Faith—complete confidence—should be our reaction to the story of Jesus Christ crucified for sin and raised from the dead.John 3:14-15 says, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” Thomas is bowing to Jesus authority and putting his life under Jesus control. They were to preach the message about Jesus Christ so that other people would believe in him and have eternal life.

Not all those ones back there, but a virtual parade of ones, in pairs. She means they can be together, share everything, yet hold onto the parts of themselves they value most.

Good ol’ doubting Thomas. Wouldn’t you hate to be remembered for your doubts? To doubt is to wonder if something is true. It does not mean you are convinced it is not true. We all doubt. The other disciples huddled together in the upper room, but Thomas had crawled into a hole to lick his own winds after viewing the crucifixion. Off in his solitary confinement, he had missed the appearance of the resurrected Christ.Yet when he finally sought the company of the community given faith by the resurrected Christ, his own wounds healed when he touched the wounds of Christ.Jesus appeared in front of me a few weeks ago. Walking along an urban street on the way to a church conference, a homeless man approached me. He asked if I could spare some change so he could eat. As I pressed a few wadded bills into his hand, I felt a nail print. As a young pastor, I entered 90-year-old Sadie’s house as I heard her Come in! I finally found her in the bedroom, her shriveled body bent over thick, yellowed toenails. Arthritic hands could not fold around the clippers or apply enough pressure to get through the nails. My body in advanced pregnancy could not kneel, but I could sit. What a pair Sadie & I were, laughing at ourselves as I sawed on her toenails. As I clipped and sawed, I felt a hole that another type of nail had left.As for his side, every time I hold a hurting person I feel that wound.Like Thomas, I have had my doubts. Resurrection is a crazy, wild, unprecedented event that has never been repeated. I can’t find evidence that it has happened when I try. When I forget about trying find proof and focus on the needs in my world that I have power through Christ to meet–then my belief resurfaces.“The question is not to prepare but to live in a state of ongoing preparedness so that when someone who is drowning in the world comes to your world, you are ready to reach out and help. Henri Nouwenlink

I’m not even goth and I’m ready to kick you out of the club.Dinner With Tom (Or, Why I’m in London)I had dinner with Tom Kinsley today (also known in college as BGT, or Big Gay Tom, to distinguish him from the 2 other Toms we knew and to mock him for his male modeling career) and Sam Smith (an American who came back to London after graduation, thereby become the expatriate I always envisioned myself as but never had the courage to become, and my host for my stay here in London). As it was, I was pretty much on my own.The Trick Is, Dont Get Run OverAs I was walking back from the bar at 2 am or whatever, I passed a man leading his drunken ladyfriend through the streets, stopping her at a crosswalk, looking both ways, and advising her, The trick is, don’t get run over. Of course, the two girls standing behind me didnt hear him, because they decided to bolt in front of me and nearly get run over by a sports car rounding the corner. When it was clear the girls were okay, I wanted to run across the street, grab them by the shoulders, shake them back and forth and scream, “The trick is, dont get run over, you idiots!

In the afternoon of Sunday, April 8, a friend had driven a good distance to my place of residence and handed over to me a huge lot of 31 interesting books, 30 paperbacks and one hardback. He’d asked me to help him to sell these nice used books at Yahoo!

I get infuriated when I hear an analyst who has probably never run business in their life, somehow knowing how to run somebody elses business, especially if that business has been successful for over 40-50 years. The best performing companies are the ones that grow moderately in a single- digit rate as long as they are generating excess returns on their invested capital. Companies that try to grow at a super-fast rate and try to maintain that rate are always setting themselves for a big fall. Whenever I see companies that are growing very fast either by buying other companies or generating super growth in earnings, I get very nervous about their outlook, basically because it is just unsustainable.

Array-ne 24 hours ago, I was getting lapped by the leader of the Andy Payne Memorial Marathon. We arrived at the race site a little after 6:00 a.m., checked in, and waited for the start of the marathon. The Lake is about 8 miles around, so we did three laps to complete the 26.2.Two miles into the race, I was in a portapotty. That is, of course, until mile 11, when the race leader (who would eventually finish in 2 hrs, 25 mins) blew by me like I was standing still. (I could’ve been 30, but I didn’t feel like sprinting past the guy who finished 2 seconds ahead of me–he was hurting as he crossed the line, and there’s nothing worse than getting passed at the finish line like that.) I got my shiny medal and was about to head to the car when Donaldo suggested we check the leaderboard.

…With the November 2006 release of The Cambridge Handbook of Expertise and Expert Performance, Ericsson led a team of researchers that produced this first-ever collection of academically reviewed studies of expertise and expert performance. The seminal [?] work received enthusiastic reviews and critical accolades in the academic and mass media alike.Ericsson’s work purports to prove that there is no such thing as innate ability, and the enthusiasm with which it is greeted demonstrates how fundamental to the modern ideology (the new religion of collectivism) is the destruction of the concept of the individual.Actually his work does not, and could not, prove any such thing. among his experts, that is a population consisting of those who, like himself, have found it possible to rise to socially-recognised prestigious positions in modern society.Demonstrating that a good deal of practice and conscientiousness has contributed to their position as recognised experts does not, and cannot, rule out the possibility that other, less quantifiable, factors may be present. After a 12-year tenure at University of Colorado at Boulder, which included a two-year stint at the Max-Planck Institute for Human Development and Education in Berlin, Ericsson joined the FSU psychology faculty in 1992 as the distinguished Conradi Scholar, the first endowed chair in the College of Arts & His presence enabled us to recruit some outstanding cognitive psychologists to join our faculty, as they were eager to have opportunities to interact with Ericsson and happy to be part of a developing program in expertise.Lucky Professor Ericsson. Just what I need myself, continue to suffer from the lack of, and could make good use of, but have not yet been able to get.You see the great enthusiasm for endowing academic institutes in which well-paid and socially statusful people can energetically produce work which is of little informational value in itself, but which may appear to an uncritical mind to support the modern drive to destroy individuality. If the funding being devoted to the development of Dr Ericsson’s programme in expertise were to be deflected to my incipient independent university, which is being kept as inconspicuous and unproductive as possible by financial deprivation, some really progressive research might be done and at the least a few books expressing suppressed points of view could be published.

Book Co., 1974 Decentralisation: or the myth that it is good to get people to live where they don’t want to John Ray OF ALL THE political lobbies, the decentralisation lobby is perhaps the most confused. How can one have the benefits of the big city without having a big city? The farmers wanted decentralisation for the quite obvious reason that it would bring at least some of the benefits of the city closer to them. They could enjoy farm life while their wives enjoyed the variety of the city supermarkets and shopping centres and their children enjoyed the social opportunities of the city. The loss of one city would not be nearly so tragic and the forces required for occupation of the country would be all that much larger. No one can dispute that smaller cities and towns are superior to large cities in the respects listed. Does it follow however that we should encourage people to live in smaller cities? 7,000 ), a small city such as Cairns (pop. 150,000 ), a large city such as Newcastle (pop. Country people are always bemoaning the drift to the cities. Why is it that academics are so reluctant to apply for jobs at country institutes of technology that even a bachelor’s degree will get you a lectureship there instead of the doctorate that would be required in the city? They lack the social variety and range of recreational opportunities of the big city. The jobs are there and the pay is in many cases better, but still people prefer the big city. And what basically is it that gives the big city its attraction? To find sufficient people to support minority interest groups means that there must be enough people for the minority still to amount to significant numbers in absolute terms. Most of our rewards ultimately or primarily come from people and people in abundance are what the big city offers. If the balance of costs and gains was against the big city, the trend would be away from the cities. More people are moving to the cities than away from them. Of course, in their foggy way, the trendies do know that big cities have advantages too. What they also overlook is that cities have immense economic advantages — principally the advantage of minimizing transport costs. Concentration of factories, workers and customers in one large city minimizes these costs. Whatever it is that people want to pay for, they would be able to afford less if it were not for big cities. Big cities have, then, both social and economic advantages. Yet because of this little subterfuge, it can still be claimed that officers in the country and officers in the city are being paid equally for equal work. What it all amounts to is that people who would not normally want to go to the country are being tempted to give up the attractions of the city by monetary bribery. It would make better sense (though nothing in this connection seems to make good sense) to give the unwilling emigrants from the city the extra money anyhow and let them go on living in the city where they want to live: Then at least some people would feel greatly benefited by the outpouring of taxpayers’ dollars. Generations of city life with hardly a breath of country air does not seem to have turned them into moral marshmallows. No, the only possible justification for decentralisation can be that it springs from a fascistic conviction that something is just good for people for some abstract or aesthetic reason and even if people cannot see it for themselves they should still be forced or induced to comply with its requirements. In summary, on the evidence of people’s own choices, the balance of costs and gains is in favour of the big city. The big city is not the only home of good jobs. It may however be the only home of many specialised jobs and if for you the only good job is one of these then it may be true that you are forever condemned to city life. It is nonetheless surprising how few jobs, even ones which are apparently specialised, are limited to the big city.
The mid-to-late 50’s saw yet another step in the ever-changing evolution of Al Parker’s style: the virtual elimination of any 3-dimensional rendering, as Parker began to experiment with a flat, graphic technique that was years ahead of his contemporaries. This is my favourite stage in Parker’s career and I find it interesting that what Al Parker was pioneering in ‘55, ‘56 and ‘57 we can see influencing the other New School artists in ‘58,’59 and ‘60. For example, those Pepsi ads we looked at a while back show, I think, the impact of Parker’s influence.I asked Barbara Bradley to look at this group of illustrations and she had this to say:Parker never pictured the same two generically beautiful faces, one for a male and the other for a female. Every one of his beautiful people was an individual. Even having been created in an era when standards of beauty were more narrow than now, the beauty of his people varied. They all had personalities. And, their types don’t show the passage of time. They’d be neat people if you met them today. Commenting on Love Is the Name of the Game (below), Barbara writes…Composed of so many flat areas of color this illustration might at first seem simple in composition. However, it is typical of Parker
Reduce the heat to 375F (190C) and bake until everything is dry enough to hold its shape, about 35 minutes longer for the puff cake and 8 minutes longer for the cream puffs (just pick them up and take them out as they are done). *And if you have lots of choux puff pastry left over just go mad and make loads X-DNow either the little gelatin sheet I used wasn’t working, or I used too much rum or the too much rum I’d ingested meant I missed something, but my cream just did not set. I poured *so embarrassed* the honore cream into my cream puffs and put them straight into into the fridge as quick as possible. it firmed up a but so I poured *blushes* more honore cream into the cream puffs (I’d had a few drinks by then so I was snacking as I went :-)).Then it was just a matter of praying to Saint Honoré and hoping the cream would set some while remaining inside the cream puffs. At this point you’re supposed to dip your cream filled cream puffs into caramel… I poured more caramel into the base of the cake (with the idea of making the bottom more able to take the cream), then poured the honore cream into the centre…

-ne Yesterday had disaster written all over the treadmill again but I learned from my mistakes on Friday, I was determined to finish my run and even though it took me a little over an hour to complete a 45 minute run I couldn’t be happier with my performance.Yesterday at 5:08 pm my blood sugar was at 170, this was 2 hours and 8 minutes after turning my pump down 95% to 5% of capacity and 1 hour and 30 minutes after an unbolused clif bar I was ready to head to the gym. I stopped the treadmill, picked up my stuff and instead of punching a hole in a wall I went and sat on the side of the boxing rink.Over the next 15 minutes I tested 3 or 4 times:6:03 PM (5 minutes after getting off the treadmill) - 716:07 PM - some dumb trainer comes up to me and says hello, ummm buddy do you not notice the daggers coming out of my eyes right now, leave me the hell alone6:10 PM - blood sugar of 896:15 PM - blood sugar of 121 - YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!

These events set off a celebration by the Red Sox and their fans at Fenway Park. The Yankees will still make the playoffs as the American League Wildcard team.Game 3: A day after the Red Sox clinched the AL East, they were able to clinch the best record in the AL and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.Behind a solid 7 innings by Tim Wakefield, the Red Sox were able to hang in the game long enough for JD Drew to hit a go-ahead 3-run homerin the bottom of the 7th inning. The shot gave the Red Sox a 6-4 lead that Javier Lopez and Hideki Okajima were able to hold on to.Game 4: The Red Sox lost their season finale on Sunday as they gave alot of players the entire day off or a portion of it.Julian Tavarez got the start for the Red Sox and allowed 3 runs in 3 innings.

I’ve thought long and hard for a good 12 minutes about this, and here is what I have come up with:New Year’s Resolutions:1) Get off the crack (ambien)2) Refrain from buying any more Coach purses - 27 is plenty (see picture of new perfect bag below)3) Try and use your new treadmill at least twice in the new year4) Do not get pregnant. Anyway, she is fabulous and SO CHEAP but after sitting down and doing our budget, we thought when faced with a choice between buying groceries and employing a cleaning lady, it was a struggle, but we went with the former. Houston Chronicle:Coming amid nationwide demonstrations in support of undocumented migrants, federal immigration authorities Wednesday launched a nine-state raid on a shipping supply manufacturer — with North American headquarters in Houston — and arrested seven executives and hundreds of employees. In Houston, immigration officials arrested as many as 25 people believed to be working illegally at IFCO Systems, as well as two former or current executives of the company that makes crates and pallets.Immigration officials are expected to announce today that the roundup signals a renewed commitment on the part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to targeting employers who hired undocumented workers. ”ICE has no tolerance for corporate officers who harbor illegal aliens for their work force, said ICE chief Julie Myers….This is a new found seriousness and the key will be whether Congress will press the agency to back off as it has done in the past. Raids like this around the country could and should lead to more self deportation as well as chill theenthusiasm for coming here illegally. Except for occassional raids like this the chances of their being any consequencies for being here illegally have been remote.Update: Michelle Malkin notes there is much work to be done to convince others that we are serious about applying the rule of law to immigration issues.

Syrian Muslim Brotherhood members escaped to Hamburg, Germany, and other destinations throughout Europe after the late Syrian President Hafez Assad murdered some 20,000 of them in the Syrian city of Hama in 1982. Through Maher, who represents the Old Guard opposed to any reforms in Syria, the CIA maintains ties with Syrian intelligence elements still in Lebanon. At least one Hamburg area company is believed to have been a front for the Syrian intelligence service, notwithstanding its Syrian Muslim Brotherhood connection. This concern is strengthened by the fact a former director of the Syrian intelligence service is a shareholder of the Hamburg company owned by a Syrian Muslim Brotherhood member. German officials also believe Syrian intelligence tried to control the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood members in Hamburg, including those who would become the September 11 hijackers.

Who will be eliminated next? The show opened on the southern tip of Greece where the teams spent 12 hours in a mandatory rest period at the last Pit Stop. Fan favorites and my personal favorite team of BJ and Tyler! They pretended the empty bus carried not only them, but the teams eliminated thus far during the race. BJ did a spot on impersonation of Lake and I smiled despite the fact that my team was already starting behind all the others.Once the teams arrived at the airport, it happened all over again. They were supposed to find this huge incense burner building and sure enough, its opening time allowed all the teams to run for the clue at approximately the same time. The Incense Clue directed the teams to the town of Sur, about 135 miles away. After I stopped humming All Along the Watchtower, I noted that most of the teams chose Watchtower where teams had to find a cluebox located in one of three watchtowers. BJ/Tyler and Fran/Barry teamed up and got the first clues! (Not to be confused with dessert territory, in which I have a personal expertise!) Uh-oh, it’s a Roadblock - a task only one member of a team can complete. The chosen team member had to dig for what was actually food cooking in a sand oven … All of the teams arrived after them and BJ was still digging long after all the other teams left. And, they knew the clue they’d receive directed teams to the next Pit Stop (Jabreen Castle) where one team may be eliminated. I’m so happy that for once a non-elimination leg saved a team I wanted to remain in the race.

-ne I’ve always wanted to journal this crazy journey of ours ~ and have done so a little bit along the way but only in the privacy of my own diary. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes - it was the most wonderful sound I have ever heard and one that I will never ever forget. At this writing, I am 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant - with three little beans. There are two identical twins and one singleton - I guess that means that they are both identical and fraternal then ~ what a concept! Chuck would contend that my snoring has become worse over the last few weeks - but I beg to differ on that point. But in an identical twin scenario, they are looking like most others do.I’ll be seeing a new OB on Tuesday, next week; It was so relaxing and such a good way to get all of the cobwebs out ~ I’ve been seeing her at least weekly since early January and it’s time to back off to once a month. But she definitely had a strong sense of the sex - I’ll hold off on what she said for now….I’m getting spoiled by my weekly sonograms ~ there’s nothing like seeing those little miracles moving around in there.

(Not to be confused with dessert territory, in which I have a personal expertise!)
Array But the next two bars stay in the upper 1/2 of that first wide-range bar, and in general this bullish action offsets the potential negative of the tail/wick.1.) What did I see?A gap up and wide-range first bar. You can make the argument that a break of the second bar, fourth bar, or even fifth bar high was also a good entry.3.) What is the exit?1/2 closed after gain.
link

1.) What did I see?A large gap up and a somewhat narrow range first bar that closes red, but forms a nice hammer.2.) What is the entry?A break of the first bar high.3.) What is the exit? The target was the Fibonacci extension of the previous day’s low to the opening range high.
link

1.) What did I see?A gap down and wide range first bar. The third bar is narrow range, an inside bar, and closes weak.2.) What is the entry?A break of the third bar low.3.) What is the exit? The target was the Fibonacci extension of the previous day’s high to the opening range low.
